Haiku aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, Lyrik von Sylvia Plath und Captain Beefheart, eigene Texte des Schlagzeugers und Komponisten Lukas Briner: Das Repertoire an Texten, welches die junge Berner Band Hyla Crucifer vertont, ist ebenso vielfältig wie das musikalische Resultat, welches auf dem Album “Unidentifiable Birds” zu hören ist. Da gleitet eine kaum mehr erkennbare Posaune über einen düsteren, holprigen Groove (“You Don’t Turn Around”), die Sängerin greift zur Klarinette und führt die Band in einen wilden Strudel über eine balladeske Melodie (“Objects for Future Consumption”), und die ganze Band schwelgt in wohltuender Harmonie (“You’re The Governor, Now”). Dieses Quintett wechselt mit bewundernswerter Agilität zwischen minimalen Grooves und expressiver Agogik und kreiert so einen Dark Experimental Pop, der seinesgleichen sucht.
